The World Ethylene Cost Study provides a detailed analysis of ethylene production facilities
throughout the world, revealing the relative average and individual ethylene
plant production costs by major producing regions and countries. The World
Ethylene Cost Study demonstrates how ethylene production costs are effected by
plant size, feedstock choice, plant age/technology, operating rate, and degree
of forward/backward integration. The study allows clients to understand why
certain ethylene plants are cost-competitive (or non-competitive) and how
ethylene production costs will effect product pricing and potential capacity
rationalization during the "bottom of the petrochemical cycle".
Key issues covered in the analysis include the following list.
-
The impact of energy prices on ethylene industry cost curves is analyzed. Cost
curves based on industry conditions from 1998 (low crude oil price scenario)
and forecast for 2002 (higher crude oil price scenario) are included in the
study.
-
The lowest cost and highest cost regions and primary sources of competitive
advantage or disadvantage are identified.
-
The impact of regional ethylene cash cost competitiveness on ethylene
derivative trade is explored.
-
The size and significance of the "advantage" maintained by low feedstock cost
ethane crackers around the world. (e.g.: "The Alberta Advantage" or "The Middle
East Advantage") is covered.
-
The differentiation of light feed versus heavy feed crackers and reasons that
influence producers to select one type of feedstock versus another.
-
Areas that might be attractive for future steam cracker investments based on
advantaged cash costs position, regional growth, and derivative trade patterns
are identified.
